Team Guandalini Racing - Assen TT - Superpole - 25 April 2009
During the second qualifying session on Saturday morning, two riders from Team Guandalini qualified for the superpole thanks to the fourth absolute time of Jakub Smrz and the fifteenth time of Brendan Roberts. Between qualifying and superpole there is the second round of free practice, which simulates the race and setting in anticipation of the official races on Sunday. Here also very good results for both riders were achieved, setting high expectations for the race.
In the first minisession of superpole Brendan Roberts finished in eighteenth place, gaining fifth raw (eighteenth position). Jakub Smrz quietly finished in ninth place with race tires, guaranteeing access to the next minisession. Already by the second minisession Jakub mounted the first of the two qualifying tires and in just one fast lap secured second position behind the American rider Ben Spies. The same strategy in the third and final minisession ensured the Team Guandalini rider the front row for the 2 races on Sunday.
“In the last two races I had big problems with my bike set up but my team did a great job fixing the bikes according to my needs. Now the bike is really perfect. Tomorrow I will try in every way to improve my results in the race in order to gain positions in the general ranking. We are fast, thanks to a really good team and I have to finish the race in good position to realize what I did right on Friday and Saturday. Tomorrow we'll see-- I hope to do well. ”
